A complete grow kit brings several purchasing decisions together, but the word ‘complete’ does not tell you whether a bundle covers your particular setup. Before ordering, match the listed equipment to your growing method, available space and plant stage. Then make a short list of anything you already own or still need.
1. Read the equipment list before the photograph
Start with the itemised contents on the product page: exact models, sizes, quantities and nutrient names. That list defines the bundle. An illustration can show a different light, pot arrangement or nutrient range, so check any notes beside it rather than building your shopping list from the picture.
A brand in the kit name may identify the main light, not every component. For example, the Spider Farmer Starter Set lists a Spider Farmer light and tent alongside Root Nurse pots, BioBizz Light-Mix and VitaLink nutrients. Compare the individual items, not an assumption that everything comes from one manufacturer.
2. Choose soil or DWC before comparing packages
For a soil setup, look for pots, the growing medium and suitable nutrients. Check both pot volume and bag quantity: four pots and one bag of soil are different purchasing details. The Lumatek Complete Set, for instance, lists four 16L pots, two 50L bags of CANNA Terra Professional and a CANNA Terra Starter Kit.
A DWC bundle centres on a hydroponic system rather than soil-filled pots. The Spider Farmer DWC Set lists a four-bucket system, a pH meter and CANNA Aqua Vega A&B and Aqua Flores A&B nutrients. Do not add soil nutrients simply because their bottle names sound similar.
For DWC, check the system’s own component list for its air pump, airline and other fittings. Plan where you will fill, check and empty the system. Nutrient and measuring requirements should follow that system and the manufacturer’s instructions, rather than a generic soil shopping list.
3. Match the light to the plant stage
Record the exact fixture model and lighting type. A kit containing a 315W CDM lamp is not an LED kit, and a similar wattage does not establish the same coverage or intended use.
The Value Starter Set contains the LUMii BLACK Blade 100W LED. This model is intended for propagation and vegetative growth; its manufacturer does not recommend it for flowering or fruiting. Treat it as a stage-specific starter option, not a promise of lighting for an entire flowering crop.
For help comparing fixtures, use our LED grow light sizing guide. Check the model’s mounting instructions and controls before deciding whether existing hangers, timers or controllers can be reused.
4. Measure the tent and the room
Write down the full width, depth and height in centimetres. Then allow space outside the tent for opening doors, ducting and reaching equipment. Inside, consider the space taken by pots or buckets, the light and its required clearance.
A name such as ‘four-plant’ identifies the package; it is not a guarantee that four mature plants of every species will fit. Plant size, growing method and access all affect the layout. Use physical dimensions as your starting point and work through our grow tent size guide before choosing.
5. Separate extraction from circulation
An inline extraction fan and a clip-on circulation fan do different jobs. Check which are listed, together with any carbon filter, ducting, clamps and speed controller. If the description only says ‘fan kit’, confirm that kit’s contents before assuming each accessory is included.
Also compare connection diameters and decide where the equipment will sit. An extra fan is not automatically the answer to a missing connection or an impractical duct route.
6. Make your final extras checklist
- Plants or seeds: these equipment bundles do not include them; arrange them separately.
- Installation: check hanging hardware, timing controls and the connections required by the listed equipment.
- Measuring and watering: check whether meters, calibration supplies, measuring jugs, saucers or a watering container are included or already available.
- Growing supplies: verify medium quantities and the exact nutrients supplied before buying duplicates.
- Day-to-day access: plan how you will water, inspect and clean the setup without dismantling it.
Use the accessories collection to fill confirmed gaps. Then compare the complete grow sets against your checklist. Choose the bundle whose listed contents suit your method and space, rather than the one with the biggest plant count in its name.
